On August 30, 2023, the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission communicated a change to the licensing application process for bars and restaurants which will require that any incomplete application be brought to completion and satisfaction by the applicant industry member within 45 days from submission. Failure to provide all required documents within the 45 day timeframe may result in the application being denied.
The TABC’s message:
Starting tonight, some new language will appear in LBD applications in RLPS. This is being introduced to ensure the efficient processing of LBD license applications. This change is aimed at deterring applicants from submitting incomplete applications, which can lead to inefficiencies, wasted staff time, and delays in processing completed applications. We believe that this adjustment will ultimately expedite the processing time for your license applications. Here is the language:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before submitting your application, make sure it is complete and prepared for review. This includes finishing any construction work and being ready for an onsite inspection of your premises. The Commission provides a 45-day grace period for you to provide any missing information or schedule your inspection, but failure to do so may lead to the application’s denial, requiring you to reapply and pay another application fee.
[ ] I acknowledge that if this application is not complete or the location is not ready for inspection within 45 days, this application may be denied.
This language reinforces the importance of submitting fully completed applications and being prepared for inspection within the stipulated timeframe. We believe that this additional notice will serve as a helpful reminder to applicants, ultimately streamlining the application review process and ensuring that staff resources are optimally utilized.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement this change to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the restaurant license application process. Our goal is to better serve you, our valued stakeholders, and to ensure that the TABC continues to operate smoothly.
